I'm a “beginner” and I would like to buy some flavorful cigars. If anyone can recommend any flavored cigars, like the kaluahs or something of that matter, i'd appreciate that as well. I did have a rum flavored cigar at one time, it was great, too. Also, if you can recommend a brandy or whiskey that goes along with it, I'd be most gratefull.

From my experience as an occasional cigar smoker I can tell you that I don't find them addicting in the sense of a chemical addiction (or perhaps the chemical addiction is so good it has me fooled). Keep in mind that when I say cigar I mean a real cigar, a handmade, natural cigar, not sold in packs or otherwise machine processed. Anything machine produced is more like a big cigarette in my opinion. I also simply hold the smoke in my mouth, since the point of a cigar is to get the flavors / aromas from the tabacco and the way it was aged.

There was a period of time when I smoked at least one cigar a day for about 4 months. I didn't feel compelled to smoke to satisfy a craving, but moreover I enjoyed the company and conversation that came from sitting down and enjoying a fine cigar over 1-2 hours of “smoke-time”.

Now I smoke maybe one a month and still enjoy it very much, but I don't feel the need to smoke more, nor do I care if I go 2 months between smokes. I don't feel the nicotine “rush” that you get from cigarettes, I just feel relaxed and contemplative when I smoke.

It's my belief that cigars, like liquor, beer or wine, are simply other food “groups” to be enjoyed and indulged in. Just like you wouldn't normally eat an entire chocolate cake in one setting, I wouldn't normally drink or smoke to excess. On occasion I do, but for the most part I find that single slice of cake, a fine cigar, glass of wine, beer, liquor, to be just enough to satisfy me. I wish more people shared in this attitude of responsible enjoyment of these substances.

Listen to BertC, he knows what he's talking about. As for darkflower, cigars do age very well, but only under near-perfect conditions. If you are asking this question, you probably don't own a nice humidor to store and age your cigars. Again, what BertC said, cigars from a good store with a humidor are good to smoke right away and should not be kept out of a humidor for more than 2-3 days. But gas station smokes aren't preserved well to start with and can be smoked any time.

One of the natural defenses you body has against respiratory infections are thousands of microscopic cilia that line the throat and airway. These cilia beat in a concerted whip like motion that serve to slowly move particles from the lower regions of the airway up to the mouth where they are coughed or breathed out. In a healthy individual, many potentially infectious bacteria may be removed in this way before having the chance to establish an infection. However, a major reason that smokers are at greater risk for such infection is that the inhaled smoke can damage the cilia making it harder for the body to remove the streptococcus and making it easier for the bacteria to set up an active infection in the throat. So if you want to prevent catching strep next cold season, it wouldn't hurt to go easy on the cigars!

Ive been looking around for a humidor and finding advice on what to look for or be aware of is a little hard. I know i dont need anything bigger then say a 100 Cigar box. But i know theres a lot of garbage out there as well. I saw Thompson's and Famous Smoke Humidors and they look nice. I also saw somewhere someones advice was to look on ebay or amazon i looked at ebay because i have a coupon for them and it looks like the majority of the humidors are from one of a couple of places.
